These Guidelines are part of the Terms of Service. Breaking them can cost you your account.
Why this page exists
Shotcaller is used by adults to coordinate youth sports. Coaches, assistant coaches, and parents talk to each other here about children. That shapes every rule below.
We are small, we read our reports, and we would rather lose a subscription than host something that puts a kid at risk.
Who can be here
- You must be 18 or older to have an account. No exceptions, and no accounts for anyone under 13 with or without a parent's permission.
- Players under 18 don't have accounts. They're roster entries. A parent with an account sees the plays the coach publishes and anything the coach shares with the family. Players who are 18 or older can be invited to hold an account like any other adult.
- Team chat is adults only — coaches, team staff, parents, and players 18 and older. Nobody is in a channel without appearing in its member list. We don't do invisible observers.
- Parents can message the coaches, and coaches can message a parent. Parents can't message each other, and nobody can message a player under 18.
- Don't let someone else use your account, and don't let a minor use it.
The rules
Never
- Anything sexual involving a minor. Sexual content, sexualized depictions, grooming, solicitation. We report this to NCMEC and law enforcement, we terminate the account permanently, and there is no appeal.
- Sexual or explicit content of any kind, including nudity and partial nudity.
- Photos or video of children in a locker room, bathroom, changing area, or in any state of undress.
- Threats or planning of violence against players, coaches, officials, spectators, or facilities.
- Harassment, bullying, or intimidation — of anyone, including a 10-year-old on the other team.
- Hate speech or attacks based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or veteran status.
- Doxxing — publishing anyone's address, phone number, school, or medical details without permission, and never a child's.
- Using Shotcaller to plan anything illegal. Specifically: drugs and performance-enhancing substances; providing alcohol or tobacco to minors; betting on games, match-fixing, or point-shaving; trafficking or any offense against a child; fraud; falsifying ages, residency, or eligibility documents; unlawful recording; or anything else that's a crime under federal or state law.
Before you upload a photo or video
Every time you upload, you're telling us:
- there's no nudity and nothing sexual in it;
- no child is in a state of undress, and it wasn't taken in a locker room or bathroom;
- there's no graphic violence, drug use, or criminal activity in it;
- it's relevant to the team — this isn't a photo-sharing app;
- you had the right to take it, and the facility or league allowed recording; and
- everyone identifiable in it consented — and for every child, their parent or guardian consented.
If you can't say all of that, don't upload it.
Don't
- Impersonate another coach, official, league, or organization.
- Spam the channel, sell things, or recruit for anything unrelated to the team.
- Post someone else's copyrighted material as your own.
- Forward or republish another family's information — a roster, a message, a child's stats — outside the team.
- Scrape the service, hammer our API, or try to get around plan limits, permissions, or security.
- Use Shotcaller to build a competing product or train an AI model.
A note about what belongs in chat
Chat is not encrypted end-to-end, your team's coaches can see the channel, and anyone in a conversation can screenshot or forward it. Don't put medical detail, financial information, or anything you'd be upset to see forwarded into it. "Sam is out this week" is fine. Sam's diagnosis is not — for Sam's sake more than ours.
Reporting something
In the app: every message, media item, and member has a report control.
By email: Safety@shotcaller.football
We review every report within 24 hours. For anything involving a child's safety, we act immediately.
You can also block another user, which stops them messaging you. Team administrators can remove anyone from a team.
Tell us what you saw and where. You don't need to be sure — that's our job.
What happens when someone breaks the rules
Depending on what happened and whether it's happened before, we may:
- remove the content
- warn the account
- restrict features
- suspend the account
- terminate the account permanently and ban the person
- notify the affected team, league, or organization
- refer the matter to law enforcement
For anything sexual involving a minor, or any offense against a child, we go straight to 5, 6, and 7. That is not a graduated system and there is no appeal from it.
For everything else, you can appeal to Safety@shotcaller.football within 30 days and a human will look at it again.
What we don't do
- We don't read your team's chat for fun. Access is limited to investigating a report, a security or legal obligation, or a risk to someone's safety.
- We don't pre-screen everything. We act on reports and may use automated tools; neither catches everything. Don't assume something is fine because it's still up.
- We don't run background checks on coaches, parents, or staff, and we can't verify anyone is who they say they are. That's your league's job, not ours. If your organization doesn't have a safe-sport policy and a background-check requirement, get one — this app is not a substitute.
